Description :
Dijon is a French commune, prefecture of the Côte-d'Or department and capital of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. It is located between the Paris Basin and the Rhone Valley, on the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranean axis, 310 kilometres south-east of Paris and 190 kilometres north of Lyon.
Its inhabitants, known as the Dijonnais, numbered 159,106 in 2020. The urban unit, with 245,895 inhabitants, is the largest agglomeration in the region in terms of population. The city is at the centre of an inter-municipality, Dijon Métropole, comprising 23 communes and 253,859 inhabitants, and a catchment area of 410,568 inhabitants.
The historic capital of the Duchy of Burgundy, the city of a hundred steeples under the Ancien Régime, and the heir to a rich historical and architectural heritage, Dijon is a tourist city whose appeal is reinforced by the region's reputation for gastronomy. The city's historic centre is the second largest part of the climats du vignoble de Bourgogne, which were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 4 July 2015.
A conference city, the Burgundy capital is also a green city with a large service sector, as well as a regional economic centre with a diversified fabric, with a traditional food industry (Dijon mustard, Dijon blackcurrant liqueur and kir, gingerbread, Lanvin chocolate, etc.) and a renowned pharmaceutical sector.
