Montbéliard is a town in eastern France, sub-prefecture of the Doubs department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. It is located in the north-east of Franche-Comté, less than twenty kilometres from Switzerland, at the gateway to the Jura mountains. Montbéliard and its surrounding region (the "Pays de Montbéliard") were annexed to France in 1793.

Its inhabitants, the Montbéliardais, numbered 25,726 in 2020. The urban unit, which had 112,848 inhabitants, is the third largest agglomeration in the region in terms of population. It is at the centre of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération intercommunality, comprising 72 communes and 139,970 inhabitants in 2019, and a catchment area of 179,555 inhabitants in 2020.

Labelled as a Town of Art and History, the town is known worldwide for its Christmas market, considered to be one of the most beautiful in France, but also for its agricultural and culinary heritage, whose flagships are the Montbéliarde cow and the Montbéliard sausage. The Montbéliard region is also the cradle of Peugeot cars.
